Adrián J. Calderón Márquez, Ph.D.
Adrián is a Senior Bioprocess Scientist at BD Biosciences at Cayey, Puerto Rico, where he leads and supports performance investigations on immunology reagent products used in flow cytometry for research and in-vitro clinical diagnostics. He obtained a bachelor’s degree in Biology with specialized courses in Microbiology at the University of Puerto Rico (UPR)-Mayagüez campus in 1999, and a Ph.D. in Clinical Microbiology & Immunology at the UPR-Medical Sciences Campus in 2005. Prior research involved studying HIV proteins influencing apoptosis cell-death of infected Jurkat (T CD4+) cell line by downregulation of viral proteins Tat and Vpr by RNAi, flow cytometry, and fluorescence microscopy analysis of virus expression and cell cycle analysis progression of infected T cells. He was an adjunct faculty at the Department of Sciences & Technology in the Inter American University of Puerto Rico, teaching courses to undergraduate and graduate students. Additionally, Dr. Calderón-Márquez has provided continuous education lectures to members of the College of Medical Technologists of Puerto Rico (CTMPR), “Hospital San Jorge” Medical Faculty, members of the Puerto Rico Society of Microbiologists (PRSM), and the community of “Vistazo a la Ciencia”. He has been a contributing member of the Puerto Rico Society of Microbiologists and prior councilor member of the Executive Board.
