The Puerto Rico Society of Microbiologists (PRSM), a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization founded in 1957, traces its origins to the “Escuela de Medicina Tropical” (1926) and the University of Puerto Rico at Río Piedras.

As the official branch of the American Society for Microbiology (ASM) in Puerto Rico, the PRSM promotes microbial sciences, sponsors active student chapters, supports research and education, and fosters a diverse inclusive community of microbiologists.
