Albersy Armina-Rodríguez, MSc.

Albersy Armina Rodriguez holds a Bachelor's and a Master’s degree in Microbiology with extensive experience in research, clinical microbiology, and science communication. Currently she is a PhD candidate in the Microbiology and Medical Zoology at the University of Puerto Rico, Medical Sciences Campus, under the mentorship of Dr. Ana M. Espino. Her research explores the immunomodulatory effects of a protein from the parasite Fasciola hepatica and its implications in sepsis.

She is passionate about advancing microbiological sciences and fostering collaboration within the scientific community. Her leadership roles include her current appointment as ASM Young Ambassador for Puerto Rico and co-founder of "Vistazo A La Ciencia," a non-profit dedicated to science education and outreach. This experience has strengthened her organizational skills and enhanced her understanding of managing educational initiatives, community outreach, and financial management, including proposal writing and resource allocation.

Albersy’s aspirations within the Puerto Rico Society of Microbiologists are to contribute to its growth and sustainability. She is dedicated to promoting student participation and supporting professional development to empower emerging scientists and increase member engagement. Serving as Treasurer aligns with her knowledge in managing budgets, financial planning, and record-keeping, developed through her academic and organizational experience.

Motivated by a desire for transparent and responsible financial management, Albersy aims to help the society achieve its goals while maintaining fiscal integrity. She looks forward to collaborating with fellow board members to strengthen the society’s impact, foster educational growth, and ensure its long-term success.
